the rebel youth issue by ellen von unwerth...

For the second issue of 7 POST's men's special, Ellen von Unwerth produced the best biker shoot for a fashion magazine since Peter Lindbergh's 1992 story for British VOGUE.

Initially offered a twenty-page slot, Ellen couldn't decide on a final selection of images because each image was better than the previous one, as the 7 POST editorial team discovered after opening an enormous WeTransfer file containing more than 130 images. So Ellen was given the entire issue.

Some readers wondered if the issue was some sort of homage to cofounder Prosper Keating's past as a motorcycle magazine , especially as Ellen asked him to model in the shoot with his 1936 Velocette. However,  the idea of a shoot inspired by the leatherboy images of the Swiss photographer Karlheinz Weinbergerand the Hamburg music scene of the early 1960s came entirely from Ellen von Unwerth herself.

The executors of the Karlheinz Weinberger Estate very generously contributed several of Weinberger's iconic images for an essay by Keating on biker culture and the Rebel Youth title came from one of the Weinberger books. The issue led to parties in Paris and New York and a pop-up photo exhibition in Paris in the Fall of 2015 with an issue of the new title 7 POST ART containing unpublished images from the shoot.
